“’Redefining Possible’ is what the staff does every single day there, so when I learned that motto, it was a natural to design a sculpture that showed the tender and determined strength of the staff and the willingness of the patient.” Madelien Wiener Artist
Edison Bitsui enjoyed golf, horses, his business,, and life in Corrales, New Mexico. In the summer of 2021, that changed in a second - come hear Ruth's caregiver story.
This book shares my five-year journey of being immersed in caregiving as a result of Edison's horse accident. Being a caregiver is challenging and requires compassion, empathy, strength and resilience. Putting another's needs before you own is hard. Each step, for years took prayer, and family support. Healing is still underway.
In 2016, the world-renowned entrepreneur and artist, Virginia Ballenger, showcased her astonishing creativity and talent in an international fashion exhibition that captivated audiences from all over the globe. Her remarkable performance left the spectators awestruck, and she received rave reviews for her exceptional work. Among the many people that were present at the event, the trip ambassadors Ruth and Edison were fortunate enough to meet Virginia, and they eventually became close friends on the trip.
Ruth received a surprise gift from the renowned silversmith Tonya June Rafael. This gift holds multiple levels of significance for Ruth. It reflects
her love for horses, which has been an integral part of her life journey and has taught her valuable life lessons. The gift represents the strength of horses, which is a powerful force, yet it is as delicate as a flower petal.
Caregiving is many things, and much is positive. Typically, the responsibility falls on one person and it can result in isolation and loneliness. Ruth values the support of her family and friends and suggests supporting a caregiver you know who might need a nap, time for coffee, or need to go to the grocery store.
